Consisted of the Japan's oldest Four shrines famous for Onbashira-sai festival
Suwa Taisha is the headquarter of all Suwa shrines all over Japan, consisted by for shrines in the city. This shrine is famous for Onbashira-sai festival. Cut sixteen trees which tree age is 150 year-old from a mountain to make sacred pillars every 7 years. The festival's highlight is Kiotoshi (tree falling). Young men riding the huge logs down the steep hill.
History
Still it is not yet clarified when, Suwa Taisha is one of the oldest shrine in Japan. Its history can trace back to ancient era. According to one estimate, the people opposed against the Land Offering in Izumo came to the place and established a new nation and Suwa Taisha was the center of prayer for the nation.
